First Aid for Animals Hit by Cars/Trucks

Animals should not be around roads unleashed or unattended. Neither animals nor people are any match for a vehicle. Should you observe an animal be hit by a car you should take care not to put yourself or others in harms way. If it is not your animal, it is best to try to find the owner. Make certain that the scene is safe. You must also take care not to be bitten by the terrified animal. Sometimes covering the animal with a coat or blanket will calm them as well as help retain body heat to help treat shock. If help is not otherwise available, slip a board or similar ridge material under the animal to move and transport to the animal hospital.
